Join us on Wednesday 12th of June at Albert’s Songwriters Showcase for a double headline special.
The wonderful Katie Mac and Ash Bates will be taking to Albert’s stage to share their music with you. Our host Nikki Rous will be kicking off the event with a set of her original songs. Free entry, no covers. Come along and discover some new music. This event is not to be missed.
Ash Bates is an alternative folk artist from Shropshire. The songwriting explores the self, the challenges we face and the transmutation of them through our expressions. Inspired by artists such as Justin Vernon, Nick drake and Leonard Cohen the music evokes a similar but individual style.
After playing small stages on the circuit and supporting established artists at Mahogany Horizon 2018 and festivals in the Uk, 2019 will be the year you will hear more from Ash Bates as he is set to release his first single.
Katie Mac is a singer-songwriter from Huyton, Liverpool. Taking influence from Laura Marling, Joni Mitchell and Regina Spektor, she has also been compared to the likes of Patti Smith, PJ Harvey and Kate Bush. Katie took her music to the next level by adding five band members to her solo act, and self-organising two full UK tours in 2016/2017. She has found great support off Dave Monks of BBC Introducing in Merseyside, and has been opened up towards a national audience with the help of BBC Radio 6 Music. Katie Mac released her first EP in August 2018, with another ready to be released in Summer 2019. Both EP’s have been produced by Sam Duckworth of Get Cape. Wear Cape. Fly.
Nikki started off on the stage as a dancer when she was about 5 years old. At the age of 16, she bought her first guitar and fell into a world of diverse musical discovery. Around this time, she absorbed the musical colours of artists and bands such as Nick Drake, Joni Mitchell, Bob Dylan, Tori Amos, Skunk Anansie, Jimi Hendrix, Led Zeppelin, Bob Marley, Radiohead, PJ Harvey, Portishead, Massive attack and so many more amazing musicians that inspire her still to this day.
Nikki draws on her wide range of personal experiences for the content of her songwriting, and with a genre and era spanning musical fascination what she crafts is emotive, passionate and moving. Over the years Nikki has developed a connected and buoyant rapport with her audiences which makes her performance both scintillating and a genuinely memorable experience.
Nikki has performed alongside, and opened up shows for, artists such as Jamiroquai, Level 42, Supergrass, Miles Hunt, Nick Harper, Jon Gomm and many more. She has graced the stages of venues and festivals up and down the country such as The LG Arena Forum, The Wolves Civic, The Glee Club, The Robin 2, Solfest, Nozstock and Sunrise Celebration and of course Albert’s Shed.
