What’s on in Shrewsbury – Carnival Weekend!
Wondering what’s on in Shrewsbury this weekend? Well you’ll be pleased to know that we’re expecting a hive of energy in the town thanks to a triple whammy of entertainment: live music, the Russia World Cup 2018 and the carnival is in town. So if you’re thinking of making a visit to the town there might not be a better time to experience Shrewsbury than this one.
Day by day of events – Thursday 14th June
OK so technically not quite the weekend, but it’s the first day of the Russia World Cup 2018 and we can’t think of a better way to build up to the weekend than watching the home team open the greatest competition on Earth.
Who’s playing the first World Cup match: Russia vs Saudi Arabia (Group A) – Moscow (Luzhniki)
What time does the game start: 4pm
As always we’ll be running the karaoke from 9pm. Albert hates it but it’s one of the best nights of the week to be down at the Shed. Shrewsbury folk just can’t get enough of it.
What’s on in Shrewsbury on Friday 15th June?
The weekend starts to get really interesting from Friday, with Portugal vs Spain playing at Sochi at 7pm. As soon as the match finishes we’ll have live music with Probably Roy. We had the pleasure of enjoying the frontman Matt Johnson from Probably Roy last Wednesday at our weekly Songwriters Showcase and he’s such a great musician. This time around he’ll be playing covers of modern rock and indie classics from the likes of the Foo Fighters, QOTSA and Blur.
Shrewsbury Carnival – Saturday 16th June
The triple threat begins with the Shrewsbury Carnival which starts at Shrewsbury’s Quarry Park, just 5 minutes walk from Albert’s Shed. The event starts at 10am and the organisers have put together a full program of entertainment, stalls and shows. At 2pm the Shrewsbury Carnival moves into the town centre with a parade of themed floats, dancers and marching bands that will pass right outside of Albert’s Shed. Why not take in the party atmosphere with your favourite tipple.
From 2pm we’ll also be showing the following World Cup matches on all 10 screens throughout the Shed:
Argentina vs Iceland (Group D) – Moscow (Spartak) – 2pm
Peru vs Denmark (Group C) – Saransk – 5pm
Croatia vs Nigeria (Group D) – Kaliningrad – 8pm
From 9pm Albert brings you the very best in party music from Shropshire’s very own ‘The Words’. We’ve already hosted this band in the past and the audience lapped up their take on modern rock classics. There is no better way to see out such a busy day than to let your hair loose in true Albert’s Shed style.
Sunday 17th June
Wondering what’s on in Shrewsbury on Sunday the 17th June? We have another great day of football and music. Starting at 1pm we have more matches to watch, the first being Costa Rica v Serbia. But then two great teams will be playing from 4pm:
Germany v Mexico (Group F) – Moscow (Luzhniki), 4pm
