Telford’s Southwater getting first music venue as Albert’s Shed expands

Up to 40 jobs will be created in Telford as Southwater gets its first music venue.
Albert’s Shed has been hugely successful in Shrewsbury and now the owners are expanding to Telford.
The new venue will be in the former world buffet restaurant near to the ice rink, and bosses said they believe it will become a huge asset for Telford.
David Gregg, general manager at Albert’s Shed, said: “I am looking forward to applying the same winning formula that has made Albert’s Shed Shrewsbury such a success to Albert’s Shed Southwater.
Albert’s Shed opened at the site of the former Source Bar in Barker Street, Shrewsbury, in March 2017 and has since played host to more than 500 musicians, as well as comedians.
Mr Gregg said their focus was on music as much as food and drink.
“What sets us apart from many bars and clubs that also offer live music is a dedicated stage and a focus on presenting live music as professionally as possible, providing high-quality in-house sound equipment and a professional sound engineer,” he said.
“For Albert’s Shed, live music is the primary concern, whereas generally live music tends to be a lesser consideration after the food and beverage elements of a business.
“We see the Shed’s role as being that of both entertainer and also to support musicians by providing a platform for emerging artists, locally, nationally and sometimes internationally.
“Not only do local audiences get to see the best of the underground music scene at a low cost – often free – but local artists are given opportunities to help them grow and develop into national touring artists.”
It is not yet known when the Southwater Albert’s Shed will open.
