WHO ARE RED RUM CLUB?
So who is Red Rum Club and why are they catching everyone’s attention?
We interviewed the band to give you the inside scoop.
So, what’s your story?
We’re six mates from the same area in Liverpool who have been playing in bands since we were kids. We decided to make a go of it and things have turned out pretty nice so far.
How would you define your sound?
Like six Scousers being extras in a Quentin Tarantino western film.
And what about the artists that influenced those sounds?
We are big fans of the likes of The Coral and Echo and the Bunnymen, as well as more arty influences like Ennio Morricone and the musical works of Neil Buchanan from Art Attack.
Your debut album is out in October, how are you finding the recording process?
It was great! It was good to be in the studio for two weeks straight getting everything down and hearing the tunes in this new way. We can’t wait for everyone to hear it and to have those physical CDs. On the other hand, we’ve spent loads on deliveroos and Cadbury’s chocolate fingers.
Are you doing anything fun to promote the release? Like making videos for example? If so, can you share with us what you’re planning?
Yeah, we have a few ideas about how we can promote the album. The biggest thing which is a bit of a secret, but our mate is a filmmaker and he’s going to put the whole album as the soundtrack to his film. We shouldn’t tell you this but it’s called ‘Once upon a time in Hollywood’ by our mate Quentin Tarantino. Honest!
And you’re supporting your release with a tour of the UK, which of the dates are you looking forward to the most?
Our hometown show is probably an obvious one to say, but we couldn’t really say any other one that we are looking forward to more than any other. All of the shows are going to be class and they will all have something different, so why pick one?
What’s the weirdest show you’ve ever done?
We played a ‘Lord of the rings’ night in Bootle town hall near where we live. Fran thought we had to dress up too and came as a Wookiee. He hasn’t seen Lord of the rings!!
